I was born on August 13, 1969 in the city of Los Mochis Sinaloa, Mexico. I am the fourth of six siblings. During my childhood I lived in "El Campo Estrada", Ahome Municipality, located 20 kms. from the city of Los Mochis in the same municipality. I grew up as a happy and normal child. I finished high school and later took a secretarial course. At age 15 I met my current husband, married him at 18, had 3 children and I live in the city of Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
When I turned 22, I started feeling pains in my joints; I went to the doctor who then ordered some tests. I was later diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. My knees, arms, fingers, etc. slowly started to show signs of the illness, to the point that I could not walk. I currently use a wheelchair. My family helps me but particularly, my youngest daughter Lorena. She takes me to the Rehabilitation Center where I met Claudia Carolina Ortega. She takes painting classes with others that have different capabilities with teacher Lidia Chaidéz who became quadriplegic.
Lidia Cháidez was already a scholarship grantee of the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists and is dedicated to teaching others to paint with their mouth or foot, thus providing students with a new sense to their lives. Claudia invited me to take painting classes and I thought it was a good idea since I used to like to painting. So one Friday I went as an observer and I was surprised to see students working with a lot of enthusiasm. I really thought I would not be able to paint with my mouth. In spite of this, I registered for the course in October of 2007, and I continue to progress.
Learning to paint with the mouth has served me much as a therapy. When I paint I forget my arthritis pains, I have new friends I can coexist with and they are very nice people. It has served me to feel productive and motivates me to continue painting and make headway in life.
On March 1, 2009 I was accepted as a scholarship grantee in the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, which fills me with happiness and blessings.
