Help Us Spread the Word
DOB:20th August 1956
Place of Birth:Taipei Hsien
Painting Style:Foot Painter
Member of MFPA since:    2000
Nationality:Taiwan

When Mei-Hui Chen was three years old she was given a blood transfusion due to a high fever and after a short while her hands were totally paralyzed. She began to do things with her feet, learned how to write and paint, which was very painful at first. Nevertheless she made considerable progress and in 1988 she was granted a scholarship by the Association. In 1994 she became associate member and in the year 2000 she was granted full membership of the VDMFK. Mei-Hui Chen paints in the old Eastern tradition with impressive fantasy and fine painterly expression.

Every now and then the artist also paints in the "Western" manner. Mei-Hui Chen shows her ability when she paints traditional motifs like a pair of birds or something on a bare branch of a blossoming tree, to mention just two extraordinary examples.

Her blossoming branches with symbolic lines of calligraphy emanate life and so remain above and beyond any type of colour photograph. Her animal and landscape paintings are characterized by remarkable quality, too. A rooster, for example, greeting the morning on a plateau between bamboo bushes. The elegant movement of fish beneath blossoming branches that hang above, a mountainous landscape with waterfalls all done in blackish-blue and beige except for the red blossoms: done this way for certain traditional symbolic values at the same time it noticeably fulfills the artist's view of life.
